Upcoming Punch-rivalling Hyundai SUV to be named Exter

A week after confirming the launch of a new entry-level SUV in India, Hyundai announced that the car will be called the Hyundai Exter. The new car will sit below the existing Hyundai Venue and in turn, will rival the Tata Punch and Citroen C3. The micro SUV will enter production by July-September while sales will begin during the festive period.

The Exter will be slightly larger than the Hyundai Casper, which is offered in South Korean markets and measures 3,595mm in length, 1,595mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,400mm.

The test mule of the model was spotted testing on Indian soil for the first time last month. Earlier sightings, have provided us with a glimpse of how the mini SUV would seem. It is anticipated to share design elements with the Venue, particularly on the outside. The H-shaped LED DRL, which relates to "Hyundai," will be one distinguishing feature. Roof rails, two-tone alloy wheels, and LED illumination are anticipated to be standard features.

We anticipate that the Exter will use the same 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83PS and 114Nm as the Grand i10 Nios, as well as the same five-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission choices. A CNG option may be considered after the car has made its official launch.

Top-spec models might be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100PS and 172 Nm. There will, however, be no diesel engine.

The interiors, which might be identical to the Hyundai i10 NIOS hatchback, would also contain several segment-first innovations. It will be outfitted with an electric single-pane sunroof, linked car technology with a wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a digital instrument cluster. Other features will include ventilated seats, wireless charging, cruise control, and 6 airbags for safety.
