The Mahindra Armado has now joined the Indian Army

The Indian Army has received the first units of the Armado Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV) from Mahindra Defence Systems. The Armado is a light armoured specialized vehicle designed for military and defence usage. It is designed to be a modular vehicle that may be updated or altered in the field for a broad range of operational purposes.

The Armado is powered by a 3.2-litre turbocharged direct-injection diesel engine that is also capable of running on NATO-grade diesel. The engine produces 215PS and 500Nm of torque, and power is sent to all four wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The Armado has a peak speed of more than 120 kph, a 0-60 kmph time of 12 seconds, and a payload capacity of 1,000 kg.

The Armado comes standard with Bilstein independent suspension for all four wheels and 318/80-R17 tires. The tyres can also operate for up to 50 kilometres without air or a puncture, and the Armado also has a centralized tyre inflation system. It has power steering and, curiously, can be adjusted for either left or right-hand drive.

The Mahindra Armado can seat up to eight passengers, including the driver. It can carry 1,000 kg of payload. GPS, an automatic grenade launcher, an electric winch, a public address system, and an HF/UHF/VHF radio are all standard features on the vehicle. The ALSV has Bilstein independent suspension all around. It also has a centralized tyre inflation mechanism.
