Tata Motors replacing starter motors on old Nanos

Tata Nanos with a manufacturing date upto mid-September 2011 will receive a new upgraded starter motor. The replacements of this vendor supplied part have already begun from October 2011 and follows Tata's policy of upgrading parts of the Nano like the electrical system and exhaust. This recall will affect 1.4 lakh Nanos and is said to be the biggest in Tata Motors history.

As of now, 50,000 old Nanos have been fitted with the new starter motor and the company expects the remaining customers to troop into their service centers within the next few months. The 2012 Nano, which was launched in November 2011, gets the upgraded starter motor as a part of factory fitments. The 2012 Nano gets a revised suspension set-up which includes an anti-roll bar at the front. Power has also been hiked to 38PS with an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 25.4 kmpl. All the variants of the Nano now come with a warranty of 4 years or 60,000 kms, whichever is earlier.
