Tata Altroz petrol, diesel, and CNG: Difference explained

Tata recently launched the Altroz CNG in India, with prices starting at Rs 7.55 lakh (ex-showroom). With this addition, the Altroz is now available in three different engine options: petrol, diesel, and CNG. Here, we will explain the differences among these three models.

Altroz Petrol, Diesel, and CNG: Powertrain

The Altroz petrol is equipped with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated Revotron petrol engine that produces 88PS and 115Nm of torque. The Altroz CNG also uses the same engine, but it generates 73.5PS and 103Nm of torque in CNG mode. Both variants come with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Other engine options for the Altroz include a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 110PS and 140Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 90PS and 200Nm of torque. The turbo-petrol engine can be paired with a five-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the diesel engine is only available with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The claimed fuel economy figures for the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, and 1.5-litre diesel engine are 19.33kmpl, 18.5kmpl, and 23.64kmpl, respectively. However, the fuel efficiency figure for the Altroz CNG has not been disclosed yet.

Altroz Petrol, Diesel, and CNG: Boot Space

The Altroz petrol and diesel variants offer a boot space of 345 litres, while the Altroz CNG variant has a boot space of 210 litres.

Tata offers the Altroz petrol, diesel, and CNG variants with mostly the same features, although the CNG variant lacks a few. The key common features among the three variants include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air purifier, electric sunroof, engine start/stop function, iRA connected car tech, USB Type-C and Type-A ports, six airbags, rearview camera with parking sensors, auto headlamps and wipers, cooled glove box, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a wireless charging pad, among others.

The features absent in the CNG variant are cruise control, idle start/stop function, driving modes, and TFT digital instrument cluster.

Altroz Petrol, Diesel, and CNG: Prices

The prices for the Altroz petrol variants (manual and automatic) start from Rs 6.60 lakh and go up to Rs 10 lakh, while the Altroz CNG prices range between Rs 7.55 lakh and Rs 10.55 lakh. The Altroz diesel prices start from Rs 8.15 lakh and go up to Rs 10.50 lakh. The Altroz i-turbo prices range from Rs 9.10 lakh to Rs 9.80 lakh.
