Spied: 2018 Toyota Camry spotted testing in the US

The 2018 Toyota Camry was recently snapped testing in the US. While the test car is heavily camouflaged, we can spot a few design cues that hint that a sportier (TRD) variant may also be in the offing.

The front end looks sharper and angular that the current Camry, with a new twin-slat grille. The projector type headlamps are new and sleeker than the ones on the previous car. The air-dams in the lower half of the bumper are quite large and overall, from what we can make out, the next-generation Camry will sport a bold face.

The side profile is features a prominent crease line that runs from the front to the rear fender. It appears that the designers may have added a little more flair to the bland sides of the previous Camry. This test mule is shod with sporty, multi-spoke alloy wheels which add to the sportiness.

The rear looks particularly sporty with the slats on the top half of the bumper and quad-exhaust pipes. Also note the spoiler on the trunk. The boomerang-shaped LED tail lamps are slimmer and seem to be inspired by the Maserati Ghibli.

Toyota is expected to provide the same set of engines that are offered with the current Camry. including he hybrid power train. Toyota may also introduce a new 2-litre turbocharged petrol motor and an eight-speed transmission.

The new Camry will ride on Toyota's TNGA modular platform that also underpins the 2016 Prius. The platform should endow the Camry with better handling than its predecessor. Toyota is also expected to use aluminum for constructing a few body panels.

The 2018 Toyota Camry will be revealed next year and will go on sale in international markets shortly thereafter. The car is expected to debut in India after the international launch.

We've always regarded the Toyota Camry as luxurious, comfy sedan. You can read out in-depth first drive review of the Toyota Camry Hybrid here.
