Rimac Nevera is the new electric 'King of the Ring'

The Rimac Nevera has smashed the Tesla Model S Plaid Track Pack's time at the Nürburgring. The Croatian automaker recently announced that the electric hypercar achieved a new production electric car lap record at the famed racetrack, clocking in at 7:05:298 relegating Tesla to second place in its category.

The Nevera set a time of 7:00:928 around the shorter track layout of 20.6 kilometers. Martin Kodri, a Croatian racing driver, set the record on Michelin Cup2R tires. Independent timing and onboard monitoring were supposedly used to validate the run.

The Tesla Model S Track Pack posted a time of 7:25.231, eclipsing the previous record holder, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The Nevera's time is around 20 seconds faster than the Tesla's.

A 7:05.298 is really fast for any automobile. While a few contemporary, downforce-laden production sports cars and supercars have cracked the seven-minute barrier, even coming close is a significant accomplishment. The Nevera is a hyper-powerful GT vehicle with sports car agility, not a hardcore sports car. On the Nevera, downforce is limited, however, reduced drag surely helps.

On paper, the electric hypercar's performance seems ludicrous. Its motors provides 1,914PS and 2,360Nm of torque using a 120-kilowatt-hour battery for electricity. It goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 1.74 seconds, has a quarter mile pace of 8.25 seconds, and a top speed of 412 kmph.

As a result, Rimac has designed a very unique limited edition Nevera named 'Time Attack,' which was shown shortly after the car's record-breaking performance in California last week. Only 12 vehicles will be manufactured, each with a unique livery inspired by the Nürburgring car's bodywork. The custom green colour also pays respect to Rimac CEO Mate's electric M3 - the converted E30 3 Series with which he began his electric journey.
