Production-spec Skoda Vision IN expected to launch in India around May 2021, more details seen in spy photos

Skoda Auto India is expected to launch the production version of the Skoda Vision IN in the country around May 2021. The heavily localized SUV will debut before that though, in March 2021. The reveal of the production-spec Vision IN will kick-off a major product onslaught for the Czech brand, with the petrol Kodiaq, fourth-gen Skoda Octavia and the C-segment sedan replacing the Rapid all set to be rolled out around this time.

We've also come across some images which give us the closest look yet at the production-spec Vision IN. The Creta-competitor seems to have carried over most of the highlights of the showcar. These include the large, upright Skoda grille, the signature split headlamps and the L-shaped LED light signature for the taillamps. Other details noticeable are a chunky-looking set of black alloy wheels, prominent roof rails and a wraparound treatment to the C-pillar. The typical Skoda design themes of subdued bodywork and large glass areas have carried over here as well.

The new 1.0-litre TSI motor that the Skoda-VW combine introduced as part of its BSVI upgrades will be the mainstay of the range. This three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 110PS and 175 Nm could be the engine offered in the low to mid-spec versions of this new SUV. Aside from a six-speed manual, we will also not be surprised to see the six-speed torque converter from the Rapid making its way, with its lower cost and apparent reliability benefits over a DCT. Also, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that debuted in the CBU Karoq and T-Roc is also expected here. This 150PS/250 Nm motor could pair with the DCT and be offered on higher trims, say a fully-loaded Laurin and Klement version.

Being based on the MQB A0 IN platform, a heavily localised of Volkswagen's MQB architecture, the SUV is expected to get competitive pricing and a good suite of features when it launches in India by the middle of 2021. Know more about the Vision IN here.

Interestingly, Skoda India also seems to be rethinking its strategy of offering a petrol-only line-up here. The company is considering reintroducing diesel engines in the Indian market, although this will be limited to its most premium offerings like the Kodiaq. With the added components and tech going into making BSVI-compliant diesel engines, these will be unviable in its upcoming mainstream offerings.
