Nissan has launched an automatic version of its hatchback, the Micra, for Rs 6.39 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The Micra CVT XV is powered by the 1.2-litre, 76PS, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which already does duty in the manual Micra and Renault Pulse models.

Currently, there are no plans to launch an automatic version of Micra with a diesel engine, but Nissan says if there's substantial demand for such a car, the company is well equipped to put one out in the market in quick time.

The Micra CVT XV, which is a trim lower than the top of the line XV Premium, sports features like keyless entry and start, internally adjustable electric ORVMs with fold function, driver seat height adjustment, single zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth telephony and steering mounted controls, which makes it one of the better equipped automatic hatchbacks in the segment. It is also equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and two airbags at the front.

The manual XV Premium, on the other hand, comes with added features such as a reversing camera and an auto anti-dazzling inside rear view mirror and side airbags for front passengers.

The entire Micra series has also undergone a significant design upgrade. At front, it features new headlamps, more chrome outlines and a more aggressive and in-your-face bumper design. At the rear, the Micra sports LED tail lamps, which are a first for the segment, in addition to a redesigned bumper. All the design changes have been also incorporated in the 1.2-litre petrol manual as well as the 1.5-litre diesel manual.

The Micra, which is competing with the likes of the Hyundai i20, is now available in a total of seven trim levels. There's the base XL and the mid-level XL (O) available with both petrol and diesel engines, but with just the manual gearbox. Then there's the XV trim which again is available with both engine options but only the petrol comes mated to a CVT. Finally there's the XV Premium that only comes with the diesel engine and a manual gearbox. To compete with the likes of the i10, Nissan has also introduced four trim levels of the previous Micra and called it the Micra Active. The Micra Active is available only with the petrol engine and manual transmission. Prices for the Active range start from Rs 3.5 lakh ex-Delhi.
