Mini Cooper Clubman All4 to be launched in India on Dec 15, 2016

The Mini Cooper Clubman All4 is essentially an estate version of the Cooper hatchback. Its roots date back to the 1970s when the name Clubman was first used on the Mini facelift. The new-generation Mini Cooper Clubman All4 arrived earlier this year.

It is the largest car in the Mini portfolio and has a conventional 4-door set-up, but the tailgate has been split into two sections. This gives access to the 360-litre boot space which can be further increased to 1,250 litres. Mini has now confirmed that the Cooper Clubman All4 will be launched in India on December 15, 2016.

The Mini Cooper Clubman All4 is available in regular and S trims. Both trims make use of a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor from the Cooper S that makes 192PS at 5,000rpm and generates 280Nm at 1,250rpm. The torque output can be further increased to 300Nm with the overboost function wherein the turbocharger is allowed to keep spooling to produce the additional torque for a short duration after the throttle is fully pressed. This motor is offered with an option of a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic; however, it is the latter that will be offered in India. Mini claims that the Clubman takes 6.9 seconds to reach 100kmph and has a maximum speed of 225kmph.

The Mini Cooper Clubman All4 will also be offered in a SD diesel trim. This one comes equipped with a 1,995cc 4-cylinder diesel motor that generates 190PS at 4,000rpm and makes 400Nm at 1,750-2,500rpm. The claimed acceleration timing and maximum speed for the diesel version is 7.2 seconds and 222kmph. Mini states that the diesel variants delivers an overall efficiency of 20.83kmpl.

The Mini Cooper Clubman All4 will be offered with features that are not usually seen in the brand's portfolio. This includes an electronic parking brake, electric seat adjustment and individual 'Mini Yours Interior' customisation option that provides illuminated door bezels. In addition, it comes with an optional 'comfort access' system that automatically opens the split tailgate without the need to physically open it. With a length of 4,253mm, width of 1,800mm, height of 1,441mm and a wheelbase of 2,670mm, it is significantly longer than its predecessor and the 5-door model.

We expect the Mini Cooper Clubman All4 to be priced between Rs 35-42 lakh, ex-showroom. Mini dealerships across India still have not started taking bookings for the Cooper Clubman All4.
