Maruti Suzuki recalls over 7,000 Baleno RS

Maruti Suzuki has announced a recall for 7,213 units of the Baleno RS due to a possible defect in one of the parts of the braking system, called the vacuum pump. India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer has said that the affected vehicles were manufactured between 27 October 2016 and 1 November 2019.

The recall has been announced to address a suspected issue in the vacuum pump, which assists the brake function of the car. Maruti has stated that the affected vehicles with a possibly faulty vacuum pump may require an increased effort in brake pedal application.

In order to rectify the possible issue, Maruti Suzuki's authorised dealer workshops will contact the affected vehicle owners to arrange a free-of-charge replacement of the faulty part.

Based on the top-spec Alpha variant, the Baleno RS was powered by a 1.0-litre, inline-three-cylinder, turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine producing 110PS and 149Nm of torque. It was coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. Notably, the newly launched Fronx also comes powered by the same engine, however, it now gains mild-hybrid functionality.

A series of recalls from Maruti Suzuki
The latest recall is the fourth one in the last five months, as the brand has already announced three recalls. To start with, in January 2023, Maruti recalled 17,362 units of the Alto K10, S-Presso, Grand Vitara, Eeco, Brezza, and Baleno due to a possible defect in the airbag controller. These affected models were manufactured between 8 December, 2022 and 12 January, 2023.

In the same month this year, the company recalled 11,177 units of the Grand Vitara manufactured between 8 August, 2022 and 15 November, 2022 to rectify a possible defect in the rear seatbelt mounting brackets.

In December 2022, Maruti Suzuki announced a recall for 9,125 units of the Grand Vitara, Brezza, XL6, Ciaz, and Ertiga owing to a suspected fault in front-row seatbelts. These affected vehicles were manufactured from 2 November to 28 November, 2022.
