With the Mahindra Scorpio-N officially being launched, Mahindra now has two very strong contenders in the SUV segment. The extremely successful Mahindra XUV700 already garnered plenty of attention and also easily captured the Indian of the Year for 2021. Let's what separates these two mighty SUVs from each other and what they have to offer.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Vs Mahindra XUV700 - Design And Dimensions

The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N is 4,662mm long, is 1,917mm wide and 1,857mm tall. In comparison, the Mahindra XUV700 is longer at 4,695mm but has a width of 1,890mm and a height of 1,755. Both SUVs share the same wheelbase though at 2,750mm.

The Scorpio-N has a more boxy appearance with flatter body panels, which gives it a muscular appeal, in contrast to the XUV700's more curved form, which makes it appear more urban. The XUV700 has a slightly tapering roofline, whereas the Scorpio-roof N's is flatter in comparison. Moving to the sides, the boxy style of the Scorpio is once again noticeable.

At the back, the two cars are worlds apart. The new Scorpio-N has a rear door but the XUV700 uses a regular hatch. The taillights on the Scorpio are vertically mounted showing off a little more character.

The diesel engine option in the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N is the 2.2-litre mHawk unit. This motor is available in two states of tune with a lower-spec Z2 variant putting out 132PS and 300 Nm, being offered with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel-drive only. The top-spec variants of the Mahindra Scorpio-N will get this diesel in a higher 175PS tune with torque outputs increasing to 370Nm when paired with the manual and 400 Nm with the six-speed automatic.

The XUV700 gets a 2.2-litre turbo diesel that puts out 185PS and makes 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual and 450 Nm with the 6-speed automatic. In the more basic MX spec, the diesel engine is detuned to 155PS and 360 Nm although only manual gearboxes are on offer. Both cars use the same 2.0-litre motor that puts out 200PS and 370 Nm with the six-speed manual and 380 Nm with the automatic.

The interiors of the Mahindra Scorpio-N uses gloss black and mild chrome highlights, along with the brown and grey upholstery. The Scorpio-N gets 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, 12-speaker Sony sound system, dual-zone climate control, connected- tech, Alexa integration with what3words, LED lighting, wireless charging, powered driver's seat, six airbags, driver lumbar support, tumble-fold second row and a 360-degree camera. The Scorpio-N will be available in six and seven-seater options.

The XUV700 gets twin 10.25-inch screens with wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, the AdrenoX suite of over 60 connected- features, Alexa integration for voice commands, six speakers, LED DRLs, front fog lamps, panoramic sunroof, curtain airbags, LED headlamps, sequential turn indicators and cornering lamps, ADAS functions, air purifier, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seats with 6-way power adjustment, leather steering wheel and gear-lever, side airbags and 18-inch alloy wheels. The 12-speaker Sony sound system, flush door handles, 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, electronic parking brake and wireless charging make up the luxury pack.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Vs Mahindra XUV700 - Prices And Variants

Prices for the new Mahindra Scorpio-N start from Rs 11.99 lakh for the Z2 variant with a manual gearbox and rise up to Rs 19.49 lakh for the top-of-the-line Z8L variant again with a manual transmission. The Mahindra XUV700 range starts from Rs 13.18 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 23.58 lakh.
