Mahindra and HPCL develop Miles+ engine oil for Centuro

Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd have signed an agreement for an exclusive engine oil tie-up for the former's 110cc bikes.

The outcome of this joint venture is the Miles+ engine oil which has a viscomatrix of SAE 20 W40 and is specially formulated to meet the technical specifications of Mahindra bikes. This oil offers triple the drain interval than the current 3000kms, making an oil change necessary at 10000kms.

Miles+ will be available at all leading HPCL petrol pumps and auto spare part shops. It will be available in 100 and 900ml packs and is said to offer higher fuel efficiency, lower oil consumption and maintenance costs as well as longer engine life.

Miles+ will be used in Mahindra's Centuro and other 110cc bikes. The Centuro is an indigenous product coming out of Mahindra's R&D centre in Pune and uses the MCI-5 engine delivering a power output of 8.6PS @ 7500rpm with 8.5Nm of peak torque starting from 5500rpm. The mileage is an ARAI certified 85.4kmpl.

The launch of Miles+ comes at a time when the Centuro is witnessing a rise in demand across dealerships.

Commenting on the agreement, Dharmendra Mishra, vice president, sales & customer care, Mahindra Two Wheelers said, "We were looking for an oil which could suit our indigenously developed 110cc MCi-5 which is a Micro Chip ignited-5 curve engine and after working closely with HPCL we managed to develop Miles+ which met all our required specifications."

Mahindra is not the only manufacturer to have a specific oil for their bikes. Bajaj with its DTS-i engine oil and also Yamaha with the Yamalube already have their bike-specific brand of lubricants. Even HMSI has its own brand.
