Lamborghini Urus SE breaks cover as a PHEV

If there was one thing that the Lamborghini Urus was missing it would be the availability of a hybrid powertrain. However, that's not the case anymore with the Lamborghini Urus SE, which is a plug-in hybrid version of the super SUV. Lamborghini debuted the Urus SE at the 2024 Beijing auto show, and the car also looks to feature some design, interior, and onboard technology upgrades.

Lamborghini Urus SE: Powertrain

The twin-turbo V8 generates 620PS and 800Nm of torque, with the electric motor adding 192PS and 483Nm of torque. The engine has been revamped to work with the plug-in hybrid powertrain, which features a 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Because the motor is incorporated with the 8-speed automatic gearbox, it also provides power to the standard all-wheel-drive system.

The entire system output is 800PS and 950Nm of torque. The SE is the most powerful version of the Urus, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.4 seconds, then further to 200 kmph in just 11.4 seconds and will top off at 312 kmph.

The Urus SE has a 60 km electric-only range and can reach speeds of up to 130 kmph in EV mode before the combustion engine comes in automatically. The Urus SE debuts a new centrally positioned longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch that distributes driving torque variably and continuously between the front and rear axles. The transfer case works in tandem with the new electronic limited-slip differential fitted on the rear axle, providing "on demand" oversteering to simulate the sensation of a thoroughbred super sports car.

Lamborghini Urus SE: Suspension

Depending on the driving mode, the Urus' air springs adapt for ground clearance, with travel ranging from 15 mm to 75 mm when the elevating mechanism is enabled. The hybrid's handling, drivability, and the sound of the twin-turbo V8 are all customizable. The SE offers an array of driving modes, with four hybrid powertrain modes - EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Recharge - added to the six modes available in the pure-petrol Urus.

Lamborghini Urus SE: Exterior and Interior

The new hybrid Urus is more aerodynamic than the gas version, with a 15 percent gain in efficiency thanks to a revised front end and a more aerodynamic underbody that improves airflow through and around the car.

The Urus SE's external design incorporates modest tweaks that improve both the appearance and overall aerodynamic efficiency, such as the revised clamshell hood, which results in fewer cut lines that may catch the air. The headlights have been updated with the newest matrix LED technology, and the fascias at both ends are new.

A redesigned spoiler and diffuser at the back, as well as different vents on the body and below, all help to boost downforce and cooling. It also gets new wheel designs, available in 21, 22 and 23-inch diameters and fitted in Pirelli P Zero tyres. Meanwhile, the inside adds an even bigger centre screen at 12.3 inches, and features a new telemetry system so you can track your energy use.
