Jeep officially reveals the Commander SUV
Jeep has officially shown us the Commander three-row SUV, which will be sold in India as the Jeep Meridian and is internally known as Jeep Low-D. The vehicle will first go on sale in Brazil, with India following in the middle of 2022.
Many times in the last year, the Commander has been spotted testing in India and Brazil. Official pictures show that the three-row Jeep Commander has a number of distinct features that set it apart from the two-row Compass SUV on which it is based. The Jeep Commander will be built in Goiana, Brazil, with the Compass, Renegade, and Fiat Toro, all of which are built on the same platform as the Commander. Right-hand drive variants will be manufactured at India's Ranjangaon facility, which also produces the Compass, and sold worldwide.
In Brazil, Jeep has opted to keep the old 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine, which produces 170PS and 380 Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission and includes a standard 4x4 system. The right-hand-drive models of the Commander in India are likely to get a mild-hybrid system with greater power. A 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine with flex-fuel technology produces 187PS and 270 Nm of torque in the Commander. Only the front wheels are driven by this engine, which is connected to a 6-speed automated transmission.
The Commander and the Grand Cherokee L have a lot of similarities in terms of style. The front grille with the top part folded backwards, as well as the classic chrome trim around the upper margins of the windows, are design elements that harken back to the Compass. The rectangular full-LED headlight and thin tail-lamp designs are comparable to those found on Jeep's new-generation Grand Cherokee, and the window line is also similar to that of current Jeep models. The Commander's front bumper has huge fake vents with LED Daytime Running Lamps and fog lamps, as well as a chrome strip that runs over the fascia.
The dashboard design is very similar to that of the Compass. Although the front seats are covered in brown leather upholstery with embroidered suede accents, they appear to be right out of the Compass. The words "Jeep 1941" engraved on the front centre armrest are an intriguing design detail. The rose gold embellishments on the centre console are also a lovely touch.
The Commander will receive a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to the revised Compass in India and a 10.1-inch central infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, wireless phone charger, linked car features, Alexa virtual assistant, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system, electronic trunk, and more are among the other amenities. Seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, lane keep assist, and other safety features are included.
In India, the Commander will be sold under the Jeep Meridian name in India in 2022. The Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and Skoda Kodiaq are all potential competitors in India.
