India-made Renault Duster recalled in UK

The highest selling model from Renault India, the Duster is exported to several countries including the UK. However, a recent notice on Renault's low cost subsidiary Dacia's website states that certain batches of the Duster are being recalled. The reason cited for the recall is the detection of corrosion in the cars. Dusters delivered in the UK between January 2013 and August 2014 are supposed to be affected by this. The issue revolves around inconsistent paint quality along some panels - for instance, under the bonnet and on one of the door frames. This, however, doesn't affect the SUV's performance in any way.

We contacted Renault India for some clarity on the situation. While they did not comment on the issues with the export models, they did confirm that the Indian Dusters aren't affected. Renault has now stopped exporting the cars  to the UK as the UK subsidiary finds it more cost effective to import cars from Romania, the Dacia stronghold.

The Duster is expected to receive a makeover here sometime next year. The company recently launched the AWD version in India and will be opening sales for the Lodgy MPV in the first quarter of the next year.
