Mahindra has just introduced what they call as the 'premium pickup truck' in the form of the new Imperio. The Mahindra Imperio pickup truck is available in two variants - single and double cab. There are also four variants of each, in BSIII and BSIV complying categories. Mahindra has also discontinued the Genio pickup and plans to export the Imperio to neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal, should the need arise.
The Mahindra Imperio looks eye-catching with a very aggressive design language on the outside and new interiors as well. The engine is the familiar 2.5-litre DI motor that makes 75PS and 220Nm. The bold and prominent face is said to be SUV-inspired. The new fenders give it a more rounded and car-like look
The side profile looks more on the lines of a regular pickup
FuelSmart technology is a salient feature in the new Mahindra Imperio with the company claiming enhanced fuel efficiency, up by 7 per cent when driven in Eco mode
These are the interiors of the BSIII complying model which gets a HVAC but no music system
The interiors are all-grey but interspersed with black plastics, similar to what you see here on the glovebox lid and handle
The interiors look more car-like and there is also an illuminated key hole as well as keyless entry in the top-spec VX trim
These might look like Angel Eyes but they are just reflective rings. Note the reflective strip on the lower lip of the front bumper
Mahindra claims that the Imperio has lots of storage spaces. We did find many cubby holes and surprisingly a bottle holder in the double cab version
The double cabin Mahindra Imperio runs on 15-inch JK Ultima tyres while the single cab gets Ceat rubber
One can activate the Power and Eco mode with the flip of a switch right next to the headlamp levelling assembly
Mahindra have also added follow-me-home headlights to the top-end VX trim
