Hyundai ix25-based SUV to be called Creta in India
Hyundai's new compact SUV, the ix25, will be christened the Creta in India. Hyundai has sent in a press release which says that the new Creta will be a global model and it will be revealed in India sometime later this month. The company elaborates that the name Creta was selected because the 'pronunciation of Creta evokes welcome similarities with the term creative'. This name will be used in other markets as well.
The Hyundai Creta nee ix25 is the company's stab at the lucrative compact SUV segment in India. Currently players like Ford, Renault and Premier are already present in the segment, with the EcoSport, Duster and Rio, respectively. Maruti is expected to join the party soon while similarly positioned products from Tata and Mahindra are expected to be showcased in the near future.
Hyundai's Creta SUV is likely to come with a choice of 1.6 petrol and diesel engines from the Verna. These engines have worked like a charm on the Verna so we don't see how they would be any different on the Creta - some fine tuning would be in order though. There will be many segment-first features in the Creta including daytime running lamps, projectors and much more. Expect the interiors to be as luxurious as the Hyundai i20 Active and crammed with features which is a Hyundai forte.
