Hyundai India rolls out its 7 millionth car

This year has been one of the most important for Hyundai India. The car manufacturer launched the new-generation Elantra in August. The sedan received more than 1,100 bookings and 1,800 enquiries in six weeks of its launch. Last week, Hyundai also brought in the third-generation Tucson at Rs 18.99 lakh. And now Hyundai has achieved a historic milestone of rolling out its seven millionth car from its Sriperumbudur facility.

It was the top-end trim of the Hyundai Creta automatic that rolled off the production line. Present at the event were Y.K. Koo, managing director and Ganesh Mani, vice president - production, Hyundai India. The company states, "With this achievement Hyundai India has become the first Indian car manufacturer to achieve this feat in a record time within 18 years of its commercial operation in the country." The company rolled out its first million car, a Santro, in 2006, just 8 years after the commencement of commercial production in 1998. The five millionth vehicle was rolled off from the facility three years ago.

Additionally, Hyundai has been the top exporter from India for 12 years, consistently since 2004. The car manufacturer has exported a total of 24.64 lakh units till date. Hyundai is also all set to bring back the Santro brand in India in 2018. The new-generation hatchback will be on par with the Eon and will take on competition from the Renault Kwid, Datsun Go, Tata Tiago and Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
