Honda City facelift launched in India, prices start from Rs 11.49 lakh
Honda has introduced the refreshed fifth-generation City, with prices starting at Rs 11.49 lakh and rising all the way up to Rs 20.39 lakh for the City Hybrid with the highest specification. Moreover, the 1.5-litre diesel engine is now discontinued.
The updated City receives slight visual updates from the inside out, similar to most mid-life cycle facelifts. Honda has modified the front bumpers, and the grille now has a smaller chrome strip. The sweptback tail lights with nine LED arrays and a crisp design are still there after the redesign. The grille design has also been modified; higher varieties have a honeycomb pattern, while lesser ones have vertical slats.
A new alloy wheel design on lower models, Honda has also repositioned the reflectors and added freshly designed bumpers to the City facelift's rear end. With this update, Honda is now providing the new Obsidian Blue Pearl paint colour option.
Due to poor sales, Honda has discontinued its 1.5-litre diesel engine with the most recent makeover. It will continue to be a petrol-only model with 1.5-litre engines that provide 121 PS and 126 PS of strong hybrid power, both of which have been modified to comply with stricter RDE emission standards. The strong-hybrid engine receives an e-CVT while the gasoline engine receives a six-speed manual and CVT.
Even the petrol models of the City facelift have ADAS features including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automated emergency braking. Until recently, ADAS was only available on the City Hybrid. It's interesting to note that Honda also offers ADAS on the petrol City's manual versions.
The inside of the car is mostly unchanged from before the redesign. The updated seat covers and colour scheme do, however, breathe new life into the interior. A wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as rain-sensing wipers, are also added to the list of additional features. Yet there are still no ventilated seats.
The updated Honda City renews its competition with the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Virtus, and the anticipated 2023 Hyundai Verna, scheduled to go on sale on March 21.
