Product review: DSG Primal Gloves

The DSG Primal gloves are aimed at riders who want a full gauntlet glove for a reasonable price. The gloves are light and fit well. They have double velcro wrist closures which do a good job of fastening the gloves securely. The knuckle protector is of good quality and should offer protection in case of a fall. However, some of the other bits don't invoke a feeling of security. DSG says that it has sewn in faux carbon fibre protection for the little fingers. They feel cheap and are far too soft and flexible. This is the case with scaphoid protector too that only looks like carbon fibre but seems to be some sort of foam underneath.

The carbon-fibre bits on the gauntlet are as good as the Knuckle protector and should do their job. The stitching around the fingers including the extra layer of leather that connects the thumb and index finger is neatly done and looks like it will last for quite a while.

Riding in the hot summer sun does not lead to sweaty palms. The gloves have good ventilation too. However, the thickness of the leather and the fact that it's just one thin layer over the palm area is an area of concern. I don't think it would last more than a single fall and even then I would want some more protection between my skin and the pavement.
The DSG Primal retails at Rs 2,999 and for that kind of money, it is a decent buy in terms of comfort but there are safer options available.
