Coronavirus impact: Kerala Motor Department adds 65 Tata Nexon EVs to its fleet

65 Tata Nexon EVs have been ordered by the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) and it will be used for law enforcement activities. These SUVs will be used under the Safe Kerala project that looks after road discipline, motor vehicle rules and regulation.

The SUVs will come under a dry lease system by the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) which is an institution that comes under the Ministry of Power.  And the SUVs will be maintained by the company. The addition of the EVs will lead to an increase in the EV charging network of 65 squad offices getting a charging station.

The cars will be fitted with gadgets like speed sensors and cameras that will help with enforcing road discipline and regulations. The gadgets have been integrated into the vehicle in a way that it can seat four passengers at a time.

The Tata Nexon EV is propelled by an electric motor that produces 130PS of power and 245Nm of torque. What powers the motor is a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers an ARAI certified range of 312km on a full charge. The base model of the Tata Nexon EV is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh and the top variant is for Rs 15.99 lakh. The electric SUV fleet in the country includes MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric and Mahindra eXUV 300. The company also offers a warranty on the battery pack of the Tata Nexon EV for up to 8 years or 1.60 lakh kilometre.
