Car sales June 2021:Toyota India retails 8,801 units, posts MoM growth of 128 per cent

Toyota India resumed production at its Karnataka plant from June 15th. The manufacturing facility was shut down due to the annual maintenance starting from April 26th. The shutdown was further increased due to the nationwide lockdown and as a result, Toyota India manufactured only 707 units in May 2021. During the period of January - June 2021, Toyota India registered 59,332 units with a growth of 107 per cent over the same period in the year 2020 with just 28,686 units.

Commenting on the announcement, Naveen Soni, Sr Vice President, TKM said, "Having resumed production with a 50% workforce last month after the gradual unlock in the state of Karnataka, our immediate goal was to cater to the pending orders of our customers. Although our dispatches only began by the third week of June, we have been able to register a 128% growth over domestic sales in June 2020. In terms of demand, we are witnessing good traction in the market arising out of 'pent up demand' and thereby leading to good levels of enquiries and new customer orders. We also anticipate retail sales to be better in the coming months, provided that the pandemic doesn't pose newer challenges at us."

It takes a different design approach over the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and carries the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 105PS and 138 Nm of torque. Toyota offers the Urban Cruiser with both 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox options and the prices start from Rs 8.62 lakh and goes to Rs 11.40 lakh ex-showroom, Mumbai.
