All-electric Mahindra Thar.e concept to be unveiled on 15 Aug

Mahindra is gearing up for the world premiere of the all-electric Thar concept, known as the Thar.e, on August 15, 2023. The carmaker recently provided a glimpse of this upcoming model through a teaser on its official YouTube channel. The teaser concludes by hinting that the unveiling event will take place in Cape Town, South Africa. Intriguingly, Mahindra has chosen to unveil not only the Thar.e concept on India's Independence Day but also introduce the Scorpio-N pickup concept. This move parallels the company's earlier strategy of revealing the BE and XUV concept electric vehicles in the United Kingdom.

The Mahindra Thar.e Concept: What to expect?

In the brief teaser video released on Mahindra's official YouTube channel, the "Re.born Electric" lettering is prominently featured. It is expected that the forthcoming Thar.e concept will share certain foundational elements with Mahindra's Born Electric SUV concepts, such as electric motors and battery packs. The upcoming electric SUV lineup, including models, namely BE.05 and BE.07, will leverage the newly developed customisable and modular INGLO platform. This platform incorporates components derived from the Volkswagen Group's MEB architecture. Detailed information about the Thar.e's platform is likely to be unveiled on August 15.

The teaser also provides a sneak peek at the Thar.e, showcasing its front fascia with square-shaped daytime running lights and central headlamps. Adjacent to the headlights is the "Thar.e" lettering. Additionally, the teaser reveals a tow hook located on the bumper. It is anticipated that this electric SUV will feature a robust design language enriched with contemporary elements both inside and outside the vehicle.

The Mahindra Thar.e Concept: Powertrain

While comprehensive details about the powertrain remain undisclosed, it is expected that the Thar.e will employ a dual-motor configuration, coupled with a substantial battery pack ranging between 60-90kWh. An entry-level variant may also be offered with a single-motor setup, similar to the currently available rear-wheel drive model. The electric SUV is poised to incorporate a fully electronic off-road-oriented system along with a variety of terrain modes.

The Mahindra Thar.e Concept: Launch

Given that the Thar.e will be presented in concept form on August 15, it is reasonable to expect the production-ready model to make its debut around 2025.
