2022 Hyundai Creta facelift makes global debut in Indonesia with ADAS features
Hyundai has revealed the mid-cycle facelift of the current second-gen Hyundai Creta at the GIIAS 2021 auto show in Indonesia. The facelifted Hyundai Creta gets radically different styling at the front and adds more safety and convenience features.
As seen with the many leaks preceding this unveil, the Hyundai Creta facelift has been given a new front end heavily inspired from the one in the new-gen Hyundai Tucson available globally. This features some of the eye-catching styling elements from the new 'parametric dynamics' theme of that SUV. So the grille is of a smoother shape but extends right to the edges of the SUV. The DRLs are also expected to be integrated into the grille of the facelifted Creta while the LED headlamps are seen to be more richly detailed with a dark finish and in a vertical arrangement lower in the bumper.
The bodywork remains largely unchanged although some sharper-looking 17-inch alloy wheels and deeper-cut bumpers with heavy silver highlights have been added that extends across the length of the SUV. At the rear, the split treatment of the current Creta has been carried over but the taillamps LED highlights get an inward extension into the redesigned boot lid to make for a more cohesive shape than earlier. The rear bumper too has been redesigned into a two-part arrangement with silver highlighting.

The look on the inside of the Hyundai Creta facelift has remained largely unchanged. The Indonesian-spec car gets various all-black cabin colour and upholstery choices which would change to a dual-tone theme more suited to our market when the SUV comes here. A notable change is the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that debut in the Alcazar has been carried over here while there is also more prominent ambient lighting. The Indonesian-spec car gets an 8-inch centre touchscreen but we expect the India-spec car to continue with its current set of features highlighted by the 10.25-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, Bluelink connected tech, air purifier and ventilated seats.
The big addition with this update is the Creta is now available with a full suite of Hyundai SmartSense ADAS features. The India-spec car should get this in the top variants which will add features like forward collision avoidance, lane centring, lane-keeping, blind-spot collision avoidance and rear cross-traffic alert and collision mitigation. The current passive safety systems that include up to six airbags continue here.
2021 Hyundai Creta facelift engine, specificationsThe Indonesia-spec Hyundai Creta facelift is only available with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motr that puts out 115PS and 144 Nm, pairing with a six-speed manual or a CVT. For India, expect to see the full range of engines to continue as is. Aside form the N/A petrol, the India-spec Creta is also available with a 1.5-litre diesel motor with 115PS/250Nm and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol with 140PS and 242Nm. Aside from the manual, the diesel can be had with a six-speed torque-converter and the turbo-petrol with a seven-speed DCT.
2021 Hyundai Creta facelift India launch date, expected price, rivalsThe facelifted Hyundai Creta can be expected to launch in India by mid-2022. This might seem like an early mid-cycle update but with the competition in this segment much more stiff now than when this generation first debuted, Hyundai will need its best-seller to be fully equipped to take on the larger or more feature-rich new rivals. The Hyundai Creta competes with the likes of the MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Mahindra XUV700. Prices for the current Creta start from Rs 10.16 lakh and go up to Rs 17.78 lakh. Expect the new version to come at a Rs 30,000 to 45,000 premium over this.
