2021 Toyota Fortuner facelift and Fortuner Legender receive over 5,000 bookings

The facelifted Toyota Fortuner and the Fortuner Legender have received over 5,000 bookings in the last month that they have been on sale. Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has also started deliveries of these SUV and is hopeful that the strong numbers will help it improve its 53 per cent market share in the segment, helped further by the introduction of the Legender. Since its launch in 2009, over 1.7 lakh units of the Fortuner have been sold.

A big change with this update to the Fortuner is that the 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine has been now been reworked to produce 204PS and 500 Nm with the six-speed auto, an increase of 27PS and 50 Nm. The torque output drops to 420 Nm when paired with the six-speed manual. The 2.7-litre petrol remains unaltered. This motor puts out 166PS and 245 Nm and pairs with either a six-speed auto or five-speed manual. Further, the diesel engine now gets drive modes - Eco, Normal and Sport while the petrol continues with the Eco and Power modes like earlier. The diesel versions also get dynamic flow control steering.

The body-on-frame Fortuner continues with its serious off-roading kit with four-wheel-drive available on the standard Fortuner's diesel versions(2WD also available). Off-roading equipment includes low-range transfer case, hill-descent control and a lockable differential. The Fortuner petrol and Legender are 2WD only.

Standard safety features on all variants are seven airbags, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, anti-theft alarm, whiplash protection front seats, ISOFIX child seat mounts and ABS.

The revised Fortuner also sees an extensive revamp of its features list. New additions include LED lighting, powered bootlid, ventilated front seats, connected car tech, instrument-cluster with blue highlights, new 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple Carplay and front parking sensors. The 4x4 version further adds chrome alloy wheels and an 11-speaker JBL sound system. Features on the Legender include quad LED headlamps, sequential turn indicators, contrasting black roof, machine cut alloy wheels, black and maroon upholstery, gloss black cabin highlights, interior ambient lighting, contrasting maroon stitching, black dial instruments with white illumination, rear USB port, wireless charging and handsfree boot opening.

Prices for the updated Fortuner start from Rs 29.98 lakh for the MT petrol 4x2, going up to Rs 37.43 lakh for the AT diesel 4x4. The Legender is priced at Rs 37.58 lakh. See the detailed pricing here.
