2021 Renault Kiger makes global debut in India
Renault India today unveiled the Renault Kiger. The Kiger made its global debut in India and is the French carmaker's contender in the crowded sub-four-metre SUV space.
The Renault Kiger is based on the same CMF-A+ architecture as the Renault Triber and has been a combined design effort of teams from France and India. It's closely related to the recently launched Nissan Magnite and will compete with it in the lower half of the compact SUV segment. Dimensions aren't known yet but the Kiger seems similarly sized to the Nissan. A broad and upright stance, finished with some strong surfaces are a continuous theme on the Renault Kiger. The split-headlamp look from the Renault Kwid has been enhanced here with more detailing. Noticeable are the three-part full LED headlamps, the chromed Renault grille and the prominent lower airdams are standouts.
Further along there is some heavy sculpting on the bonnet and over the cladded wheelarches. Higher spec cars get 16-inch dual-tone alloys. The roof of the Renault Kiger slopes down gently and carries the aero-enhancing double-bubble element from the Magnite. A striking feature of the Renault Kiger's design is the heavily sloping rear windscreen that ends in the concave bootlid. Integrated in here is also the heavily surfaced rear haunches and the 3D effect, LED tailamps. The Renault Kiger has 205mm ground clearance.
The interiors of the Renault Kiger are more straightforward, focused more on practicality and space. The two-tone dash has a chamfered dash face, with a floating 8-inch touchscreen in the centre. There's a stepped treatment to the centrestack, familiar to the Renault Triber but tarted up by the raised wide centre console finished in gloss black. Another highlight is the 7-inch digital instrumentation with numerous modes. Renault also claims the second row legroom and elbowroom are segment bests. The Renault Kiger's boot is 405 litres, growing to 879 litres with the second row folded, the interior cubbies amount to 29 litres.
Notable features on the Kiger are wireless charging, wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, climate control, multi drive modes, Arkamys 8-speaker audio, ambient lighting, PM 2.5 air filter and backlit steering controls.
The Renault Kiger continues with a familiar set of engines. The SUV will be powered by the new TCe 100 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engine that debuted in the Nissan Magnite with 100PS and 160 Nm. The N/A 1.0-litre producing 72PS of power and 96Nm of torque continues in the low-spec versions. The car will get both, 5-speed manual and the AMT transmission options. Renault will bring in the CVT transmission for the turbo petrol variants.
