2020 Nissan Juke crossover breaks cover in the international markets
Second-generation Nissan Juke crossover has been unveiled in the European market. For the second instalment, the Juke gets simpler design as compared to its predecessor. The styling stays true to Nissan's V-motion design language. However, the fascia is reminiscent of the first generation Juke and carries a similar pod-like headlamp assembly. The turn indicator assembly has been replaced by the LED DRLs (which also double up as turn indicators) and carry a more sophisticated design integrated into the crease of the bonnet.
While the flared wheel arches give a rugged SUV like profile, the sloping roof, hints at the Juke's crossover roots. The A, B and the C pillar are blacked out to offer a dual-tone colour scheme as well as a floating roof effect. What we witness from the sides is that Juke gets 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and the rear door handles are integrated into the C pillar - to offer a coupe-like effect. The rear sports a diffuse that blends into the wheel arches resulting in the minimum overhang.
The Juke also comes with N-design package that offers aggressive design for the bumpers and skirts. The N-design also highlights the accents with sporty and contrasting colours.
The Juke is based on an all-new platform (Renault-Nissan's CMF-B) that is lighter by 23 kgs and roomier than its predecessor. The manufacturer claims to have increased the leg-room by 58mm and the headroom by 11mm. Along with the cabin, the cargo space has increased up to 422-litres which is a 20 per cent increase.
The dashboard gets an eight-inch touch-operated infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. For navigation, the Juke gets TomTom maps and Live Traffic. The infotainment system runs on Nissan's connect and also offers in-car WiFi for the passengers. The Nissan Connect offers to control a few features via a smartphone application. A Bose music system is on offer as well, which has speaker integrated in the front headrest.
The dashboard layout also gets an optional dual-tone scheme along with the seats. The upholstery can be had in leather or Alcantara.
Mechanically, the Juke gets a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that puts out 117PS. The engine comes with a choice of six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The automatic variant also gets paddle shifter!
The safety net includes Nissan's ProPilot that electronically aids steering, acceleration and braking. Other features include intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, traffic sign recognition, intelligent lane intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot intervention.
If the Nissan Juke is brought to India - which is highly unlikely! it will rival the compact SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, MG Hector and the Tata Harrier.
