2019 Tata Harrier SUV waiting period stands at 4 months

Waiting period of the recently launched 2019 Tata Harrier SUV has now extended to four months, OVERDRIVE has learnt. The SUV's popularity isn't surprising. It looks nice, is spacious and is competitively priced. Prices start at Rs 12.69 lakh for the base XE trim and tops out at RsÂ 16.25 lakh for the XZ. All prices are ex-showroom.

Under the Harrier's hood is the FCA-sourced 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, dubbed Kryotec by Tata Motors. It has been detuned in the interest of better fuel efficiency. The engine offers 140PS in this guise, unlike the 173PS it offers in the Compass, though the torque output for the Harrier is identical at 350Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and this is the only engine-gearbox combination on offer currently, and while an automatic transmission is expected, there is no timeline for the same yet.

The rear three-quarter is easily the best angle to look at the 2019 Tata Harrier, thanks to its stylish-looking three-dimensional taillights, the gloss black strip joining them, the tall rear valance with the skid plate and above all, the resemblance to Land Rovers.

The Harrier (previously the H5X concept) is based on Jaguar Land Rover's entry-level D8 SUV platform, variations of which support cars like the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Jaguar E-Pace and the Range Rover Evoque. Tata's version, called Omega-Arc (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) involves the use of cost-effective materials and components.

Notable features on the Harrier areÂ HID projector headlamps, cornering lamps, full-leather upholstery and trim, terrain response modes (Normal, Rough, Wet) and a 8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a nine speaker JBL sound system with amplifier, a seven-inch instrument cluster screen and an eight-way adjustable driver seat.

The Harrier comes with six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD and a reversing camera as a part of its safety kit. A seven-seater version of the Harrier, recently revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show will be available by the end of the year as well.Â
