2019 Geneva Motor Show: Plug-in hybrid Audi Q5, A6, A7 and A8 revealed
Audi unveiled the plug-in hybrid variants of the Q5, A6, A7 and the A8. The upcoming cars will be showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motorshow. The cars can be driven with an all-electric range of 40km in the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) cycle.
Depending on the model series, there is a choice of two variants with different performance and equipment. A comfort model is introduced and so is a performance variant with sporty configurations. The new plug-in hybrids which will be introduced from now will carry 'TFSIe' badge.
The plug-in hybrid uses a turbocharged petrol engine that works together with an electric motor that is integrated into the transmission. The electrical energy is supplied by a lithium-ion battery mounted beneath the luggage compartment.
The lithium-ion batteries for the A6, A7 and the A8 is made up of 104 pouch cells that are combined in eight modules and store 14.1 kWh of energy at a voltage of 385V. On the flip side the battery pack in Q5 is comprised of prismatic cells, however, has the same capacity.
The plug-in hybrid models also have drive modes, EV, Auto, and Hold. EV mode drives the car in all-electric mode and the Auto mode the PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) uses a combination of the electric motor and the internal combustion engine. Hold mode allows the driver to have complete control over both the drivetrains.
Earlier this month Audi unveiled the Q4 e-tron concept sketches which will be showcased alongside the PHEV.
