2017 Volkswagen Tiguan launched in India at Rs 27.68 lakh

Volkswagen has brought in its most anticipated premium crossover/SUV, the Tiguan in India. The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is priced at Rs 27.68 lakh for the Comfortline and Rs 31.04 lakh for the Highline variant. All prices, ex-Mumbai. Volkswagen has launched the Tiguan only with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. The Volkswagen Tiguan will be produced at the company's plant in Aurangabad. The deliveries of the Tiguan are expected to begin in the next couple of days.

The Volkswagen Tiguan occupies an important position in the company's portfolio as it is based on the group's MQB platform The Volkswagen Tiguan is the company's first SUV to be made on this platform and also a first VW india. The German car manufacturer claims that the MQB platform makes the vehicle more efficient, spacious, safer and more comfortable than before. In addition to the modern advantages that the MQB architecture gets, the new-gen Tiguan weighs 50kg lighter than its predecessor even though the new-gen offering has grown in dimensions. The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan measures 4,486mm in length, 1,839mm in width and 1,672mm in height. This makes the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan marginally longer and taller (+12mm) than the Hyundai Tucson. However, the Tucson has a wider cabin at 1,850mm. The wheelbase of the Volkswagen Tiguan measures 2,677mm, 7mm more than that of the Hyundai Tucson.

In terms of features, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan comes equipped with three-zone automatic climate control, pedestrian safety, hill start assist, auto hold, self sealing tyres, cruise control, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, LED headlamps with DRLs, electrically adjustable ORVMs, LED illuminated panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and app connect infotainment system. As mentioned before, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan will be available in two trims - Highline and Comfortline with a choice between five colours - tungsten silver, onyx white, deep black, indium grey and atlantic blue.

Powering the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is the 2.0-litre TDI that makes 143PS and generates 340Nm. This motor is mated to a 7-speed DSG unit. The Tiguan comes with the brand's 4Motion all-wheel drive tech that splits the torque between the front and rear wheels. Volkswagen claims that this motor delivers an overall efficiency of 17.06kmpl. The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan primarily competes with the Hyundai Tucson in India. In addition, it also presents itself as an option for someone looking for a traditional SUV like the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Isuzu MU-X.
