The Yamaha WR155R has been spotted in India in undisguised form. However, according to some sources, the sighting is likely of a private import or demonstration unit rather than an official test mule.

  • The bike featured typical WR styling cues such as knobby tyres, a tall front fender and a more upright riding stance, differentiating it from its road-focused siblings.

  • Yamaha is yet to make any clear indication of plans to bring the WR155R officially into its India lineup.

The Yamaha WR155R is based on the same 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that powers the R15/MT-15 platform.

It produces in the range of 16.93PS of power and 14.3Nm of torque. The suspension setup is expected to be off-road friendly, featuring long-travel forks and a raised suspension configuration.

The frame and chassis components will be shared with Yamaha's existing 155cc family to keep costs in check. While front and rear disc brakes are standard, the WR variant may see additional protection elements like bash plates and handguards.

With the spy image out and generating hopes, multiple industry sources believe that Yamaha may not bring it to India due to market demand, ratification challenges and overlap with existing models. Instead, the spotted unit could be used for display, special events, or judging market interest. If Yamaha does decide to launch it someday, the WR155R would compete with KTM, Honda and Royal Enfield.
