Yamaha India launches the Ray scooter with Blue Core engine tech at Rs 47,805
Yamaha India has launched the Ray, Ray Z and Alpha scooters with engines that are developed using its Blue Core tech. The Blue Core concept was first seen on the and primarily focuses on improving fuel efficiency and reducing environmental pollution. The Yamaha
The scooters feature a newly developed 113cc, air-cooled, four-stroke single cylinder engine that provides improved fuel efficiency. Yamaha claims that the engine now delivers 66kmpl, that is 4kmpl more than the older figure of 62kmpl.
The changes in the engine include a nickel spark plug, a new muffler setting and a new BS carburettor and Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) setting.

Speaking about the new Blue Core engine equipped scooters, Roy Kurian, vice president, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd said, "We are eying around 10 per cent share in the fast growing scooter market in India this year riding on our three scooter offerings. Currently, we have over five per cent market share in the scooter segment, which is pegged at around three lakh units per month. The success of the Ray, Ray Z, and Alpha scooters are essential to Yamaha to realise its targets in the coming years. We are looking to place ourselves as a mass-market leader in India and scooters is certainly are main focus to be able to achieve this. Yamaha sees scooters contributing over 50 per cent of its sales in the future. Currently, scooters constitute about 40 per cent of our sales."

Yamaha has also introduced two colours, the Gleaming Gold for the Alpha and the Cyan Splash for the Ray Z.
Prices for the new Blue Core scooters from Yamaha, effective from March 2015, are as follows:
Yamaha Ray: Rs 47,805 (ex-Delhi)
Yamaha Ray Z: Rs 48,936 (ex-Delhi)
Yamaha Alpha: Rs 49,939 (ex-Delhi)

While Ray and Ray Z cater to young girls and boys respectively, Alpha caters to the family segment. The new scooter models based on Blue Core development ideal are powered by a newly designed air-cooled 113cc four stroke single cylinder engine that delivers smooth start-up acceleration and pickup along with great fuel economy.
