Volkswagen has previewed the upcoming facelift of the Volkswagen Taigun, with a teaser released ahead of its official unveiling on 9 April. This marks the first significant update for the SUV since its debut nearly four years ago, and signals the brand's intent to keep the model competitive in a rapidly evolving segment.

New design

The front fascia is expected to receive the most noticeable changes, including redesigned LED headlamps with a more fluid shape and a reworked grille. There are also indications of a full-width LED light bar and a possible illuminated logo, aligning the Taigun with Volkswagen's newer global design language. Updated bumpers with black detailing could further sharpen its appearance, while the rear may retain its connected tail-lamp layout with subtle internal tweaks.

Cabin upgrades

Inside, the refreshed Taigun is likely to step up its feature list. A larger 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system are expected, potentially enhanced with AI-based functionality. Comfort could also see a boost with the addition of a panoramic sunroof and even seat massaging features, elements that are becoming increasingly common in the segment. Existing equipment such as ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and automatic climate control is expected to carry over.

Safety and tech enhancements

Safety kit will include six airbags likely to be standard across all variants. Other anticipated features include electronic stability control, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. However, it remains unclear whether advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will be introduced with this update.

Powertrain

Under the hood, the Taigun facelift is not expected to bring major changes. The 1.0-litre TSI engine should continue to deliver 113 PSand 178 Nm, while the 1.5-litre TSI will retain its 148 PS and 250 Nm output. A key update could be the introduction of a new eight-speed automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre variant, replacing the current six-speed unit. The powerful 1.5-litre engine is likely to continue with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The updated Taigun will continue to rival models such as the Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos. Prices are expected to start at around Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom), with a slight premium over the outgoing version.
