Volkswagen has launched a Corporate Edition in the Ameo sedan, priced at Rs 6.69 lakh, ex-showroom. The Corporate Edition Ameo will be available for corporate and business customers. The introductory price of Rs 6.69 lakh is for the 1L petrol Highline Plus variant with manual transmission. In addition, VW will be also offering Corporate Edition on the 1.5 TDI diesel Highline Plus variant with manual transmission at Rs 7.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Speaking on this occasion, Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, "The made-for-India and made-in-India Ameo is carline specifically developed for the Indian market. It's a true testament of German engineering in a compact sedan filled with segment leading features. Through the Ameo Corporate edition, we aim to offer globally renowned standards of safety, quality and fun-to-drive experience to all our customers"

The Highline Plus is the top-spec variant of the Ameo that comes equipped with cruise control, parking camera, rain sensing wipers, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. In addition to that, the features list also includes electrically folding ORVMs, leather cover for the steering wheel, auto-dimming IRVMs and also 16-inch alloys.

Earlier this year, it was reported by ET Auto that Volkswagen India might be exiting the compact sedan space by discontinuing the Ameo sedan in 2020. The Ameo rivals the Ford Aspire which managed a sales number of 1,539 units last month. Whereas the Hyundai sold 2,121 units of the Xcent, and Honda sold 7,981 units of the Amaze in the month of January 2019. The segment is lead by the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which sold 19,073 units. In contrast, Volkswagen sold only 735 units of the Ameo which is only 3.85 per cent of the sales number of the segment leader.

On reaching out to Volkswagen for an official response on this topic, Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, stated, "The sub-compact sedan segment is driven by aspirational customers, that are stepping up in their life, moving away from the entry level segment. However, over the years, the segment has also been dominated by the fleet business, which Volkswagen has consciously steered away from and prefers selling for private ownership. Owing to this, the Brand witnesses a steady growth in this segment by customers looking for a German engineered and safe carline."
