Upcoming Skoda sedan teased

Skoda has been seen testing a new sedan for the Indian market for sometime now. In Russia, it's known as the all-new Skoda Rapid, but Skoda India will call it the Slavia, after its concept vehicle, or make a play on the popular Rapid name, or simply call it the Laura.

The new sedan is expected to coexist alongside the Rapid, and if it does, it will be positioned between the Rapid and the all-new fourth-generation Octavia. As a result, Skoda will be able to position the Rapid as a roomier and more luxurious option to similarly priced but smaller sub-four-meter sedans, while the Slavia will compete against the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Hyundai Verna.

It has automated LED headlights and taillamps, a redesigned Skoda grille, and an edgier appearance in comparison to the Rapid. While the Russian Rapid has a 50mm larger wheelbase than the India-spec Rapid, the Slavia is expected to extend the wheelbase by another 49mm to 2,651mm for class-leading passenger space and a best-in-class trunk capacity of 530L.

Six airbags are standard, as are digital instruments and a 10-inch infotainment system identical to the new Kushaq. The car also comes with Skoda's innovative roll-and-click switches and a two-spoke steering wheel.

Under the bonnet, the new Slavia is completely similar to the new Kushaq. A 1.0-litre TSI with 115PS/175Nm torque is available with a 6-speed manual transmission or a new 6-speed AT torque converter, and a 1.5-litre TSI with 150PS/250Nm torque is available with a 6-speed manual transmission or the DQ200 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The Slavia is set to cost between Rs 11 and 16 lakh when it debuts in early 2022.
