Upcoming Honda mid-size SUV to be called Elevate

Competition in the mid-size SUV segment is quite fierce with almost every manufacturer having at least one candidate. Honda Cars India has also been testing a car to compete in this sector and now has finally confirmed that the car will be called the Honda Elevate. The car is expected to make its debut in June and will be an all-new SUV developed specifically for the Indian market.

Once launched, the Elevate will take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq as well as the soon-to-be-launched Citroen C3 Aircross.

The upcoming car has been spotted testing multiple times and from the looks of it, we expect it to measure about 4.2-4.3 meters in length. In terms of design, the new compact SUV is likely to feature an upright front end with DRLs integrated into LED headlights, LED fog lamps, and probably a partly closed-off large grille. At the back, the SUV could feature somewhat J-shaped LED taillamps. Other design highlights may include door-mounted outside rear-view mirrors, roof rails, and a roof-integrated spoiler.

It has been speculated that the upcoming Honda compact SUV could share its powertrain with the on-sale Honda City and City e:HEV. If that's true then it should be equipped with the 121PS 1.5-litre petrol and 126PS 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrains. The petrol engine will be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT while the hybrid gets an e-CVT.

Honda is likely to equip its upcoming compact SUV with a bunch of features, such as a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car features with smartwatch connectivity, USB Type-C ports, six airbags, hill ascent and descent control, ESP, brake assist, multi-collision brakes, drive modes, and so on. Since it offers ADAS in the 2023 City, the SUV may also get advanced driver assistance features.

We expect the car to be priced somewhere between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 19 lakh in India. Honda also plans to export this SUV to overseas market once it makes its global debut.
