Triumph Motorcycles updates its Bonneville range of modern classics
Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled their 2021 range of modern classics with the new Bonnevilles. These include the T100, T120, Street Twin, Speedmaster and the Bobber. While not much has changed in terms of design, Triumph has updated the 900cc and 1,200cc engines to be now EuroV complaint. Additionally, the power and torque figures in a select few have been updated while the others have been made lighter than before to improve their handling characteristics. The company has also added new customization options along with adding limited-edition offerings to the portfolio.
Starting with the 2021 Triumph Bonneville T120 and T120 Black. Triumph has shelved 7kg from the motorcycle with the use of new lightweight aluminium wheel rims and new higher specification Brembo brakes. Further, it now comes with cruise control as standard along with ride modes that alter throttle response and traction control. Triumph also claims to have made the throttle more responsive than before. The powertrain features a lighter crankshaft. Together with an optimised clutch and balancer shafts this has reduced inertia, also making the throttle response quicker than before.
The company claims the engine has been specifically tuned to deliver high torque, from low down in the rev range all the way through the mid-range. The 1200cc twin makes 80PS at 6,550rpm and generates 105Nm at 3,500rpm. Further, the liquid cooling system has been upgraded for better fuel economy in addition to lower emissions. The engine is mated to a torque-assist clutch for reduced efforts. Also, there's an under-seat USB charging socket along with internal wiring ready to plug in the accessory fit heated grips. In terms of aesthetics, the twin-pod instrumentation features a new premium 3D dial face with Bonneville branding. Triumph will be offering 116 accessories on the T120
Coming to the T100, the 900cc High Torque twin engine has been tweaked to make 10PS more than before at 65PS at 7,400 rpm, while peak torque is 80Nm at 3750rpm, with 80 per cent of peak torque available all the way from 2,000 rpm to 7,000rpm. The powertrain on the updated T100 features a low inertia crankshaft, lighter balancer shafts, a thin-walled clutch cover and a magnesium cam cover, all of which have made the engine lighter and making the overall weight come down by 4kg compared to its predecessor. Rest of the aesthetic updates are similar to the T120. The paint options that will be available on the T100 include Lucerne Blue and Fusion White scheme, with hand-painted silver coach lines; a sleek, single tone Jet Black option or a second twin colour scheme, in Carnival Red & Fusion White, with hand-painted silver coach lines.
