Top selling cars in India for September 2021, Maruti Suzuki dominate once again

Car sales for the month of September didn't go so well for most manufacturers due to the worldwide semi-conductor shortage. Numbers for most companies are down when compared to August 2021. Even then did Maruti Suzuki not fail to dominate sales numbers as they acquired the first and second spot in India sales. Here's a list of the top 5 best sellers in India with SUVs taking up more than half of the list.

Hyundai Creta

Starting off with the fifth most sold car in India, the Hyundai Creta is one of the many SUVs on this top 5 list. The Creta has quite evidently gone on to be one of the most preferred vehicles of choice for many families over the years. The last-gen Creta was a big hit and the current one too seems to be shaping up well. It's tall figure and stylish angles are one of the main reasons why Hyundai has managed to sell 8,193 Creta units in the country.

The Creta gets three engine options which include 1.5-litre petrol with 115PS and 144 Nm, a 1.5-litre diesel motor with 115PS and 250 Nm and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol with 140PS and 242Nm. There are three automatic options, aside from a 6-speed manual. There will be a CVT, a 6-speed auto and a 7-speed DCT. The CVT is paired to the N/A petrol, the diesel is available with the torque converter while the turbo-petrol can be had with the DCT.

The Creta comes loaded with features such as LED DRLs, LED Head Lamps a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster with blind-spot monitoring and plenty more. Prices for the Hyundai Creta starts from Rs 10.16 lakh.

Tata Nexon

The Nexon name has garnered a lot of attention over the last few months as its electric variant is the leader in EV sales across India. The Nexon also boasts a 5-star Global NCAP score making it one of the safest cars. Tata Motors has sold 9,211 units of the Nexon SUV in September.

The Nexon is available with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120PS at and 170Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel version is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that generates 110PS at and 260Nm of torque. Both the engine options are available in both manual and AMT options. The Nexon EV puts out 131PS and 245 Nm of torque and has an ARAI-certified range of 312km on a single charge, as well as the 1-hour charge time to reach 80 percent on a DC fast charger.

The Nexon range starts at Rs 7.28 lakh.

Kia Seltos

Third on this list is the Kia Seltos which has sold 9,583 units in September 2021. The Seltos name has grown immensely ever since Kia stepped foot into India. It's pretty much identical to the Hyundai Creta and shares all the same features the Creta has to offer. Even the Seltos engine options are exactly the same as its Hyundai sibling. However, the Seltos is further offered with 1.4-litre MT and 1.5-litre iMT gearbox options as well that the Creta misses.

The Kia Seltos includes features like an electric sunroof, ambient lighting, leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, front ventilated seats, the mid-spec variants now receive add-ons such as smart-key with remote engine start, new AI voice commands, electronic stability control, brake assist and vehicle stability management. The Seltos range starts at Rs 9.95 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the new entrant in this top 5 list and is the only vehicle on this list that sold more in September 2021 than in August 2021. It is also one of the only vehicles in the company's lineup to show little damage from a global chip shortage. Maruti Suzuki sold 11,308 units of its Ertiga MPV.

The Ertiga uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine used in the Ertiga. The engine produces 105PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. It offers a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. The MPV can also be had in the CNG option.

The interiors of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga get a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a flat-bottom steering wheel, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, faux wooden inserts, height-adjustable driver seat, an engine start-stop button, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, rear defogger and keyless entry. Prices start at Rs 7.96 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

The Alto was outranked by the Maruki Suzuki Baleno in August 2021 sales but comes back to take the top spot for September 2021 by selling 12,143 units. Its small size and reliability seem to be preferred by many people across the country.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is powered by a 0.8-litre petrol engine that produces 48PS and 69 Nm of torque in its petrol version. When switched to the CNG mode, the same motor has an output of 40PS and 60 Nm of torque. The inside has a two-tone simplistic dashboard with a seven-inch touchscreen entertainment system in the centre, reverse parking sensors, front and rear bottle holders, power windows, remote keyless entry and front dual airbags. Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Alto are as affordable as Rs 3.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
