Top selling cars in India in March 2022

The month of March 2022 proved to be fruitful for the Indian automobile sector. Despite the persistent semiconductor scarcity and supply chain problems, most automakers saw good year on year growth in February. Maruti Suzuki dominates the list of the best selling cars once again. Here's the whole list of the best selling cars in March 2022.

Tata Punch

The latest entrant in the top-selling list is the Tata Punch having sold 10,526 units in the last month. With a starting price of Rs 5.67 lakh, the Tata punch is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron naturally aspirated petrol that puts out 86PS and 113 Nm. This motor pairs with a five-speed manual, or in the top-three variants, with a five-speed AMT. The manual returns an ARAI fuel consumption figure of 19 kmpl.

Hyundai Creta

Once again coming in as the best selling mid-size SUV in India, the Hyundai Creta sold 10,532 units. Petrol and diesel engines, such as the 114PS with 144Nm 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to either a CVT or a six-speed manual, power the Hyundai Creta. A 140PS with 242Nm 1.4-litre Turbo GDi petrol engine is also available, but only with a seven-speed DCT transmission. There's even a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel with 115PS and 250Nm that comes with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The Hyundai Creta range starts from Rs 10.23 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was sold 12,439 times in India in March 2022. The SUV has a starting price of Rs 7.69 lakh and comes with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder as seen in the Ciaz and Ertiga. This motor makes 105PS and 138Nm torque and gets the Smart Hybrid tech to go with it. The motor is paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed auto. The fuel efficiency of the manual is 17.03 kmpl and AT (automatic with Maruti's smart hybrid) is 18.76 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Suzuki sold the Swift 13,623 times in March 2022. The 1.2-litre engine in the Maruti Suzuki Swift produces 90PS and 113Nm of torque and can be had with a five-speed manual or a five-speed automated manual. Prices start from Rs 5.90 lakh.

Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon has once again turned out to be the best-selling SUV in India, having sold 14,315 units in March 2022. The Tata Nexon is offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120PS and 170Nm of torque, as well as a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 110PS and 260Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual gearbox and an optional AMT unit. The Tata Nexon range starts at Rs 7.42 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The newly launched facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno sold 14,520 units in the last month. The 2022 Maruti Suzki Baleno is powered by the 1.2-litre Dualjet naturally aspirated petrol that puts out 90PS and 113 Nm. This pairs with a five-speed manual or a five-speed manual, replacing the earlier CVT. The manual has an ARAI-rate fuel efficiency figure of 22.35 kmpl while the AMT returns 22.94 kmpl.

The Baleno can be had in four variants with prices starting at Rs 6.35 lakh for the Sigma MT. This goes up to Rs 9.49 lakh for the Alpha AMT.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire

The second most sold car in March 2022 was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire with 18,623 cars. Maruti Dzire comes only with 1.2-litre petrol. It is an updated version of the tried and tested 1.2-litre K-series VVT engine and develops 90PS and 113 Nm of torque. Even though the Dzire is offered in just a petrol engine, it still returns up to 24 kmpl which is far better than the competition. The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire starts from Rs 6.09 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

With 24,634 units sold last month, Maruti Suzuki WagonR claimed the title of the best-selling car in India in March 2022. Engine options on the Maruti Suzuki WagonR include a 1.0-litre and a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The former produces 68PS and 90Nm of torque while the latter produces 83PS and 113Nm of torque. Transmission options include a five-speed manual unit and an AMT unit. Customers can also opt for a CNG variant. Prices start from Rs 5.18 lakh.
