2021 will be remembered as the year of recovery from the hit the automobile sector took in the 2020 lockdown. Maruti Suzuki quite obviously takes up most of the places in this list leaving very little room for other manufacturers. While it can't be called a complete recovery from the economic slump it is still a start and on that note, here's a list of the most sold cars in the last month of 2021.

5) Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is quite easily one of the family favourite cars in India. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV saw a 29 year-on-year percent increase in sales for December 2021, with 11,840 units sold compared to 9,177 in the same period the previous year.

The Ertiga uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine used in the Ertiga. The engine produces 105PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. It offers a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. The MPV can also be had in the CNG option.

The interiors of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga get a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a flat-bottom steering wheel, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, faux wooden inserts, height-adjustable driver seat, an engine start-stop button, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, rear defogger and keyless entry. Prices start at Rs 7.96 lakh.

4) Tata Nexon

The Nexon name has garnered a lot of attention over the last few months as its electric variant is the leader in EV sales across India. The Nexon also boasts a 5-star Global NCAP score making it one of the safest cars. Tata Motors has sold 12,899 units of the Nexon SUV in December.

The Nexon is available with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120PS at and 170Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel version is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that generates 110PS at and 260Nm of torque. Both the engine options are available in both manual and AMT options. The Nexon EV puts out 131PS and 245 Nm of torque and has an ARAI-certified range of 312km on a single charge, as well as the 1-hour charge time to reach 80 percent on a DC fast charger.

The Nexon range starts at Rs 7.30 lakh.

3) Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Despite a 20 percent drop in year on year sales, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the country's third most sold car. In December 2021, Maruti Suzuki sold 14,458 Balenos, compared to 18,030 in the same period the previous year.

The highlights of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno include a new front bumper, LED headlamps, new fog lights, new alloy wheels, LED taillights, a black and blue interior theme, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Maruti's SmartPlay Studio app, steering-mounted controls, engine start-stop button, automatic climate control and a height-adjustable driver seat. It's pretty clear to see why the Baleno tops the charts now.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine with two options, normal and dual-jet. The former generates 83PS and 113 Nm of torque, while the latter generates 90PS and 113Nm of torque thanks to the brand's clever hybrid technology. A five-speed manual transmission and a CVT transmission are available for these engines. Prices for the Baleno start at Rs 5.99 lakh.

2) Maruti Suzuki Swift

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been around the Indian market for quite some time now. Its sporty looks and fun yet reliable engine make up for the perfect hatchback without being too heavy on your wallet. Which is one of the reasons why Maruti Suzuki has sold over 15,661 Swifts in December 2021. It comes with a good list of features as well like projector headlights, LED DRLs, 15-inch precision-cut alloy wheels, a coloured 4.2-inch TFT display cruise control, idle start-stop function, and key synchronised auto-foldable ORVMs.

The 1.2-litre K12 series Dual Jet Dual VVT engine puts out 90PS and 113 Nm of torque. When coupled with the AMT gearbox, the engine will return a fuel economy of 23.20 kmpl with a manual transmission and 23.76 kmpl with an AMT unit. The Swift range starts at Rs 5.85 lakh.

1) Maruti Suzuki WagonR
