Tata Tiago launched in India at Rs 3.20 lakh

After a series of delays, Tata Motors has finally launched the Tiago (earlier known as the Zica) in India at Rs 3.20 lakh (ex-Delhi). The all new Tata Tiago is aimed to be a modern alternative to the ageing Indica. Available in both petrol and diesel engines, the Tata Tiago gets a total of eight variants.
Unlike conventional offerings from Tata Motors, the Tiago does look impressive as it uses a  new Impact Design language which will also be seen on other cars in the portfolio. The front end is completely fresh with stretched headlamps and a wide grille. The piano black detailing done on the grille looks premium. The side profile, thankfully, doesn't remind of the Tata Indica as is the case in the Bolt. The wraparound tail lights, compact boot lid and the dual tone finished rear bumper make the entire arrangement look smart and crisp.

Tata Tiago Launch

The interiors are new and draw inspiration from the Tata Bolt, in a good way. Hard plastics and oddly shaped buttons seen on the Indica have been replaced by a modern dashboard layout with a host of features and options. While the cabin layout tries to give a premium feel, certain bits on the console and other areas highlight the cost cutting measures that were undertaken. Nevertheless, the area where the Tata Tiago scores impressively is cabin space. In our first drive review we felt that the Tata Tiago offers generous headroom and legroom for all the occupants, however, it can be a bit uncomfortable for three occupants in the rear seat.

In terms of engine options, both the petrol and the diesel are three-cylinder units. The naturally aspirated 1.2-litre Revotron motor puts out 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque, with a claimed mileage of 23.84kmpl. Like the Bolt, there are multi-drive modes - City and Eco. The 1,047cc turbocharged Revotorq diesel motor makes 70PS/140Nm and claims to deliver 27.28kmpl. Both the petrol and the diesel engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Tata Motors hasn't announced any plans of launching the Tiago with an automatic as of now but seeing the popularity of AMTs, it cant be completely ruled out as an option in the future. To know more on the performance, read our detailed first drive review of both the motors here.

The Tata Tiago competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10. You can read the detailed spec comparison report here.  Will the Tata Tiago begin a new chapter for Tata Motors or will it be just one more addition to the range, you can tell us in the comments section below.
