Tata Motors has launched a new entry-level variant of its popular Nexon SUV in India. The pricing range for the newly introduced base trim has also been reduced. The base Smart (O) petrol model now costs only Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Furthermore, the prices of the Smart + and Smart + S petrol models have been slashed by Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000, respectively. The Smart + is now available for Rs 8.90 lakh, while the Smart + S is priced at Rs 9.40 lakh.

Tata Nexon diesel receives two new variants: Smart + and Smart + S. The new entry-level model is priced at Rs 10 lakh, and the latter costs Rs 10.60 lakh. With the launch of the new diesel versions, the base price of the Nexon diesel has dropped by Rs 1.10 lakh.

The Nexon has six paint options: Fearless Purple, Pristine White, Creative Ocean, Pure Grey, Flame Red, and Daytona Grey. There's even a Dark Edition with a full Black exterior.

Powering the Nexon is a 1.2-litre, inline three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 120PS/170Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre inline four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit that generates 115PS/260Nm of torque. Along with a 6-speed manual and an AMT, the petrol motor now can be mated to a new 7-speed DCT unit with shift-by-wire technology. Whereas, the diesel engine continues with the option of a 6-speed manual or an AMT.

A spokesperson from Tata Motors said, "Since its launch, Nexon has carved a niche for itself attracting customers who always wanted something unique and out of the box, yet delivering on the key tenets of segment best performance and comfort. Holding strong to the No.1 SUV rank, three years in a row, the Nexon continues to evolve with its diverse range of trims and variants, catering to a large set of buyers."

Tata Motors has lowered the base price of the Nexon to fend away coemption from its bitter rival, the Mahindra XUV 3XO which has a starting price of Rs 7.49 lakh. Other cars that the Nexon does lock its horns with include the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
