Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) announced today the start of passenger car manufacturing at its new plant in Sanand, Gujarat. Tata purchased the plant from Ford India and began production on the new assembly line in the factory. This is Tata Motors' second plant in Gujarat, and it will produce both ICE and electric vehicles.

The facility now employs over 1000 people (including staff and technicians) and will generate 1000 more employment in the region over the following 3 to 4 months as production ramps up. In keeping with Tata Motors' commitment to sustainability, the factory now has a 50 KW solar rooftop. This is a water-neutral plant that will be water-positive by December 2024.

This new plant was bought from Ford India on January 10, 2023, and is located in the industrial centre, GIDC Sanand, with access to a robust network of suppliers. It would be Tata Motors' second facility in Gujarat, covering 460 acres and producing ICE and EV vehicles. The factory is divided into four primary shops: stamping, bodybuilding, paint, and final assembly, all of which are outfitted with high levels of automation and cutting-edge technology to ensure precision manufacture. This facility has integrated a number of world-class technologies that will create a new industry standard.

Commenting on this momentous occasion, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited said, "Witnessing the first car roll out of the new TPEM facility in Sanand is a proud moment for us. We have successfully retooled the factory in the shortest span of 12 months, taking it to new level to accommodate a wide range of existing products and future new models to come. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Gujarat for its wholesome support and our employees without whom this accomplishment would not have been possible. I am confident that this facility will play a pivotal role in steering Tata Motors, especially TPEM, towards achieving newer feats."
