Tata Motors unveiled its all-new EV architecture today, dubbed Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle or 'acti.ev' (pronounced as active). The new Punch.ev will have this new 'pure EV' electrical design. This new design will also serve as the foundation for a slew of new Tata EVs and SUVs, including the forthcoming Curvv EV, the new Sierra EV, and the Harrier EV.

Customers may now reserve their Punch.ev by visiting their local Tata Motors-approved EV sales dealership or the new Tata.ev stores, or can even book the car online. The all-electric micro-SUV, which has different stylistic aspects than its ICE brother, is available in two powertrain configurations and five trim levels: Smart, Smart +, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered +.

Tata 'acti.ev' Architecture

This new architecture is intended to improve range and economy and is composed of four distinct layers: powertrain, chassis, electrical, and cloud architecture.

According to Tata, the new acti.ev architecture will be able to employ a variety of battery packs. This battery pack design also provides a variety of range options ranging from 300 km to 600 km. The design also provides for versatility in selecting the proper drivetrain choice for the product, such as AWD, RWD, or FWD. acti.ve can support 7.2kW to 11kW onboard chargers for AC fast charging and DC fast charging up to 150kW, allowing you to add 100 km of range in only 10 minutes.

The acti.ev architecture has also been developed to achieve a 5-star certification in BNCAP and GNCAP crash tests which is especially important given that future standards are expected to become more demanding. Tata asserts that the lower centre of gravity improves driving dynamics and handling.

The 5G-enabled system will support over-the-air upgrades and cloud computing, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and other compatible chipsets powering the digital cockpit experience. The architecture is designed to support ADAS level 2+ capabilities, as well as Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle Charging (V2V) technologies.

Tata Punch.ev: Design, Colours and Features

The Punch EV has a new look with a closed-off grille and full-width LED DRLs, while the LED headlights are housed in triangular housings. The EV charging connection is located on the nose. Moving to the back, the new skid plate completes the entire redesign.

The Punch EV is available in Empowered Oxide White, Seaweed Green, Fearless Red, Daytona Grey, and Pristine White. All of these colors have a black roof finish. Oxide White is only available on the top-spec Empowered variation, while the base-spec Smart is only available in Pristine White.

A 360-degree camera, heated front seats, an automatic parking brake with auto hold, and a blind view monitor are among the new features on the Punch EV, in addition to a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Automatic temperature control, a sunroof, a wireless phone charger, keyless entry with push button start/stop, and a Harman sound system have all been retained.

Tata Punch.ev: Prices and Bookings

The Punch EV's costs, which we believe will start around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom), will most likely be announced later as the year progresses. Bookings are officially underway, and information on the range, power statistics, and features will be released when the vehicle makes its formal appearance.
