Suzuki V-Strom 160 adventure motorcycle in works?

Leaked patent images have revealed that Suzuki could be working on an entry-level adventure motorcycle, that could borrow cues from its flagship adventure tourer, the V-Strom 1050. This motorcycle is believed to be jointly developed by Suzuki and its Chinese partner Haojue. While there is no official word from either of the two companies, the V-Strom 160 ADV could be sold only in the Chinese market as a more premium offering compared to Haojue model.

What could be powering the Suzuki V-Strom 160 is the 162cc single-cylinder unit from the DR160 sold in the Chinese market. In terms of specifications, this motor puts out close to 15PS at 8,000rpm and generates 14Nm at 6,500rpm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. What needs to be seen is if Suzuki uses the same state of tune or makes any changes to suit the characteristics of the motorcycle. Considering it will be a road-biased motorcycle, we expect the state of tune to remain unchanged.

It is evident from the images that this younger V-Strom will take its design inspiration from the larger 1050. This can be seen with the signature beak design and the sculpted fuel tank, featuring extensions. The motorcycle could also get all-led headlight, indicators and taillamp much like the flagship which was recently updated V-Strom 1050 XT. Also, seen from the images, the Suzuki V-Strom 160 ADV could come with a large single-piece seat which should be comfortable on longer journeys.  The features list on the Suzuki V-Strom 160 ADV will include knuckle guard, belly protection cover and a luggage rack to mount top box.

The chances of Suzuki India bringing the V-Strom 160 ADV to India looks highly unlikely. The smaller dual-sport motorcycle that you can buy for now is the Hero Xpulse 200 BSVI which will be soon joined by the upcoming KTM 250 Adventure, which could arrive in the festive season. Let us know in the comments if you would want Suzuki to launch the V-Strom 160 in India.
