Suzuki Gixxer 155: What we know so far

Suzuki unveiled the Gixxer 155 motorcycle in India in January this year. The Gixxer is an all new bike from the Japanese marque and will compete with the Honda CB Trigger, the new Yamaha version 2.0 and Bajaj Pulsar 150.

At the unveiling, Suzuki refrained from disclosing specifications of the motorcycle. However, seven months down the line, the details are out now. The new bike's engine is a single cylinder air-cooled unit which displaces 154.9cc and churns out 14.8PS and 14Nm. These figures are roughly 1PS and 0.6Nm above Suzuki's other 150cc offering, the GS150R. The power figure is achieved at a lower rpm than in the GS (8,000rpm compared to 8,500rpm) while torque is available at the same 6,000rpm. The motorcycle makes use of SEP or Suzuki Eco Performance, which was first used in the Let's scooter. The technology is claimed to enhance performance without compromising on the fuel efficiency front. Suzuki still prefers a carburettor for the Gixxer and unlike the GS which has a 6-speed box, it's given the new bike a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Gixxer is available in a single variant and measures 2,050 x 785 x 1,030mm. It gets telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear. Alloy wheels are standard and the tyres are tubeless with 100/80-17 section for the front and 140/60R-17 for the rear. Considering  the bike is its first all new 150cc offering in a long while, Suzuki hasn't gone all the way on the features front. The Gixxer still has a single disc at the front and drums at the rear. The tank capacity is 12 litres while the motorcycle weighs a 135kg.

On the looks front, the first thing which comes to mind is the petite dimensions. The bike bears a resemblance to the FZ, more so to the version 2.0. The noteworthy features of the Gixxer are the dual exhausts on the right side, which give out a sporty roar (we got a chance to rev it at the unveiling). The motorcycle gets an all-digital meter console like the new FZ and a stepped seat for the pillion. The tail lamp is an LED unit and the grab rails are split units.

Suzuki dealers have started taking bookings of the Gixxer for Rs 5,000. It's expected to be launched in India next month.
