The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was unveiled at Auto Expo 2016. Back then the SUV was exclusively available with a diesel drivetrain, but this time at the Auto Expo 2020, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the Vitara Brezza in the petrol guise. This strengthens the case of the Vitara Brezza with respect to its rivals.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza petrol debuts in the space where we already see the petrol variants of the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue and the Ford Ecosport. Let us find out how the compact SUV fares against its rivals when compared on paper.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Ford Ecosport use naturally aspirated engines while the rest of the three, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300 use forced induction. However, the Ford Ecosport is also available with the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is exclusively reserved for the higher trim levels. The XUV300, Venue and the Nexon get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard while the Ecosport and the Vitara Brezza get a 5-speed gearbox as standard. The automatic variant of the Venue gets a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission while the Nexon gets an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).
