Spec comparison: BMW X1 Vs Audi Q3 Vs Mercedes-Benz GLA Vs Volvo XC40

The all-new BMW X1 is finally here to take on the entry-level luxury SUV segment. While the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3 are among the favourites, the Volvo XC40 is also a great option. Let's take a look at how these cars stack up against each other.

Powering the BMW X1 is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine generating 138PS and 230Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre inline-four turbocharged diesel motor that delivers 152PS and 360Nm of torque. Both units come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The former provides an ARAI-tested fuel economy of 16.3kmpl, whereas the latter has an ARAI-certified mileage of 20.37kmpl.

The Audi Q3 has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, TFSI turbo-petrol engine that produces 190PS and 320Nm of torque. This motor, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, sends power to all four wheels via the Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Under the hood, the GLA can be had with one petrol and one diesel engine. The new 1.3-litre petrol is tuned to develop 161PS and 250Nm of torque while the potent 2.0-litre diesel motor puts out 190PS and 400Nm of torque. The latter can is also available with an all-wheel-drive configuration. The petrol guise is mated to a seven-speed DCT while the diesel version gets an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the XC40 remains unchanged, but it will now be mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system and a 13PS/40Nm e-motor. It is claimed that the new powertrain would provide higher fuel efficiency than the previous one, up to 15kmpl, and is capable of producing 197PS and 300Nm combined (WLTP Combined).

The all-new BMW X1 boasts a variety of features, such as adaptive LED headlamps with high beam assist, LED taillamps, connected car features, a 10.25-inch driver display and a 10.7-inch central information hub, parking and reversing assistants, powered front seats, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system (M Sport-only), six colours ambient lighting, welcome lights, dual-zone temperature, a wireless charging pad, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, six airbags, and electric parking brake with auto-hold function, among others.

The new Audi Q3's interior features a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, Audi Drive Select, electrically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, adjustable second-row seats, cruise control, a fully digital instrument panel, Audi Smartphone interface, MMI Navigation Plus, wireless charging, a gesture-controlled tailgate, and a 180 W, 10-speaker Audi sound system.

The GLA also has 'Mercedes Me' connected features like the two-screen setup measuring 10.25 inches each for the infotainment and the driver's instrument cluster, Alexa voice assistant, remote door lock/unlock, remote engine start, speed alert, and geo-fencing among many more to fulfil contemporary needs. Other amenities include 64-colour ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charging, two-zone automatic temperature control, electrically adjustable front seats with memory, and a panoramic sunroof.

The XC40's interior has a new shift lever, raising its level of elegance. The inside of the SUV is unaltered, but for the new wood trim on the dashboard. It already comes with a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic sunroof, PM 2.5 interior air filtering system, and a portrait-style touchscreen supported by an Android operating system (OS). It also supports the Volvo Cars app, adaptive cruise control and Volvo's assured safety features.

The all-new BMW X1 in India has a starting price of Rs 45.90 lakh for the sDrive18i xLine and Rs 47.90 lakh for the sDrive18d M Sport. The Audi Q3 is priced at Rs 44.89 lakh for the Premium Plus and Rs 50.39 lakh for the Technology pack. The GLA200 starts from Rs 46.50 lakh, the GLA 220d is priced at Rs 48 lakh while the top-of-the-line 220d 4MATIC is priced at Rs 50.50 lakh. The Volvo XC40 is available in one single trim at Rs 45.90 lakh.
