Spec comparison: 2024 Mahindra XUV400 Pro vs Tata Nexon EV facelift

Mahindra recently launched the updated XUV400 with two new Pro variants in India. The prices of the new XUV400 Pro start at Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom). With the new variants, the electric sub-compact SUV gets a revamped cabin and a few new features, while the battery pack, electric motor, and range remain the same as the on-sale model. Now, here we compare the Mahindra XUV400 Pro with the Tata Nexon facelift.

Mahindra XUV400 Pro vs Tata Nexon EV Facelift: Range, Battery pack, and charging

As mentioned earlier, there are no mechanical upgrades for the XUV400 Pro variants. The EC Pro gets a 34.5kWh battery, while the EL Pro benefits from a 39.4kWh unit. According to MIDC cycle, the former returns a claimed range of 375km, whereas the latter has a claimed range of 456km. The EC Pro can be had with a 3.3kW charger but EL Pro offers a choice of 3.3kW and 7.2kW charger options. The electric motor paired with both battery packs produces the same 150PS and 310Nm of torque.

The Nexon EV facelift comes powered by two battery packs: 30kWh and 40.5kWh, offering a range of 325km and 465km, respectively. The mid-range version features a second-gen electric motor generating 129PS and 215Nm of torque, while the long-range version produces 145PS and 215Nm of torque.

Both the XUV400 Pro and Nexon EV facelift support 7.2kW AC charging and 50kW DC public charging. Claimed charging times for 10 per cent to 80 per cent range are 56 minutes for the Nexon EV and 50 minutes for the XUV400 with the same 50kW charger.

Notably, the Nexon EV features bi-directional charging with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. V2V can charge other Tata electric vehicles and other EVs, while V2L can power electronic appliances, gadgets, and tools.

Mahindra's outdated design has been replaced with a newly designed dashboard layout and a new steering wheel. The all-black interior theme has a made a way for a new dual-tone black and beige colour scheme.

Above all, there is a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Adrenox, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, two USB charging sockets, push start/stop switch, OTA updates, rear air-con vents, OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface) hub integration, in-built Amazon Alexa assistant, auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control, a wireless charging pad, OTA updates, six airbags, and fog lights. With the introduction of Adrenox, the XUV400 Pro offers over 55 connected car features. Apart from that, it continues with a sunroof, ESC, TPMS, dual-zone temperature control, four disc brakes, powered ORVMs with auto-fold function, auto headlamps and wipers, and more.

Tata has given a fresh look to the cabin of the Nexon EV facelift along with numerous new features, such as an all-LED lighting, full-length light bars at the both ends, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with OTT app and games support, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 360deg camera, a nine-speaker JBL sound system, "Hey Tata" voice assistant (compatible with Alexa, Google, and Siri), telematics, front parking sensors, height-adjustable co-passenger seat, upgraded ZConnect app, paddle shifters for regenerative braking, blind-spot view monitor, 45W USB Type-C port, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

While Mahindra has tried to make it up-to-the-minute as its direct rival the Nexon EV facelift, its competitor still gets more modern features, such as 360deg camera, a JBL sound system, ventilated seats, powered tailgate, larger infotainment touchscreen system, a high-output USB charging port, and more.

2023 Tata Nexon EV Facelift vs Mahindra XUV400: Pricing

The prices of the Updated XUV400 Pro range between Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 17.49 lakh (both ex-showroom), while the prices of Nexon EV facelift start from Rs 14.74 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom).

While the Mahindra XUV400 Pro variants bring new features and updated cabin, the Nexon EV offers has an edge over it with its new design and is also better equipped, including V2L and V2V capabilities. The Nexon EV returns a slightly better range, but the XUV400 delivers noticeably more torque output. Having said that, there is a substantial difference between the prices of the top-spec Nexon EV and XUV400 Pro variants.
