MG ZS Electric vehicle has made its debut in the Indian market and has come with a lower introductory price than that of the Hyundai Kona. Also, customer's who have booked the ZS EV before January 17 will pay Rs 1 lakh less than that of the introductory price for the new MG ZS electric vehicle.

Sharing the same segment with the Hyundai Kona which received a warm welcome in the market, OVERDRIVE decided to pitch the new electric vehicles on paper.

Pricing

The ZS EV has debuted with two trims to offer - Excite and Exclusive, which are priced at Rs 20.88 lakh and 23.58 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. While the base variant is priced almost Rs 3 lakh lower than the Kona, the higher Exclusive trim is at par with Hyundai's pricing (Rs 23.71 lakh ex-showroom). However, unlike the Hyundai Kona which is on sale pan-India, the MG ZS EV currently retails only in five cities - Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.

Power figures and Drivetrain

The MG ZS EV has an upper hand with the power figure. The MG ZS EV makes 143PS, which is 13PS more than that of Hyundai Kona's 136PS power output. But the Kona has more with 395Nm to offer. 42Nm over the ZS EV's 353Nm.

The ZS EV gets a higher capacity battery of 44.5kWh whereas the Kona has a relatively smaller battery of 39.2kWh. Even with a smaller battery pack, the Kona has a higher claimed range of 435kms while the ZS EV has a claimed range of 340kms.

Charging time

With a 7kW charger, the ZS EV would need 6-8 hours for a full charge while the Kona with the same charger would need 6 hours 10 mins. However, things turn around with a fast charger. With a 50kW (fast) charger, the ZS EV can be charged up to 80 per cent of the battery capacity in 50 mins while the Kona will need 57 minutes for the same amount of charge.

 Cycle parts

Speaking of the underpinnings, the Hyundai Kona gets independent rear suspensions. The MG ZS EV, on the other hand, gets the torsion beam in the rear. Both the electric SUVs get 17-inch alloy wheels
